First post!

Having been invited to join by my lovely girlfriend [personal profile] miss_haitch , hello Dreamwidth! It's a lovely sunny day in East England and I hope everyone is well.

To set the mood:

The apogee is the small one, and the perigee is the big one. The Moon's orbit around the Earth isn't circular, it's elliptical, which means that sometimes it's closer and sometimes it's further away. (Most orbits are elliptical. This happens with the Earth and the Sun, though those of us in the Northern hemisphere might be brain-blasted to know that the perigee is in January!)

As an intro to new people via the friending meme ...

You can totally call me Fay. I'm in teacher training and will probably go on and on about science and education (see above!) and teenager-wrangling. I enjoy teaching but I'm still figuring out what to do with myself.

I'm in a relationship with aforementioned lovely girlfriend, and have been for the past six and a half years. I also like to be quietly smug when people can't get their heads round it - at 22, we're pretty young for such a long relationship.

I've identified as mostly straight with girlfriend-oriented leanings for most of my life and only recently have been finding women really really hot. (Mizuo Peck is my latest crush.) I'm totally enjoying embracing my newfound bisexuality. Outrage at a certain TV show is what finally awakened my feminism - pretty much the only good thing it did!

I'm also  really, really ashamed I forgot to put Farscape on my interests list, as it's one of the formative shows of my life. Forgive me, Farscape!

I can be very scatty and forget to post or to check internet things, especially when I'm stressed. But I never mean it as a slight against online friends (though that doesn't always mean much) and always welcome people to comment on whatever they want in my journal. It doesn't matter what: ramble away. I'm certainly going to!

*waves* Hiya! I found you via [personal profile] liv's non-fandom friending meme. I'm an American ex-pat scientist living & working in the UK & have been for almost 5 years now. I do a lot of science outreach work so am keen to hear your thoughts on making science accessible. Am subscribing, hope that's okay. :-)

I'm based at Imperial College London. I used to work at NASA (JPL), but at the time, I was in earth science and not space science.

I've subscribed & given access to you!
