This week is going to be one of those so-much-going-on-shrieking kind of weeks: I'm teaching A-level today for the first time (qualifier: sort of like the jump between high school and first-year degree, depending on how smart the students are) and on friday. I also have an interview at the school I'm currently teaching at for a part time job in September, and man, I really, really want it. When I want something this much I tend to get a bit freaked out about it. *quietly freaks*
So as a distraction I have been:
-finding new icons for my paid time icon space (Wheeeee!)
-finding pictures of male and female models to represent characters so
miss_haitch can turn them into icons for me, so I can:
-post some of the prompt-writing I've been doing lately
-Discovering that my keyboard does not have backslash (woe!) so I cannot go o/ properly (a very new addition to the list!)
-playing Knights of the Old Republic (more on that later)
-oh yeah, and doing a meme:
THE RULES:
• Post this meme and your current wallpaper on your Dreamwidth
• Explain in five sentences or less why you chose it
• Don't change your wallpaper before doing this! The point is to see what you had on!

1. "It's Jamie Bamber" tends, to me, to be enough of a reason for that desktop!
2. I like his glare; it wakes me up in the mornings!
3. It's a Law and Order:UK publicity photo, and the sign behind him makes me giggle.
4. One of my and
miss_haitch's characters is a grumpy, kick-ass woobie called Nick, and I cast Jamie Bamber to play him. He looks just like Nick in the picture!
5. THAT GLARE MAKES ME SWOON, phwoar.
(6. I don't live in Austin, Texas. I kind of have a crush on Austin, Texas. So I have its temperature widget thingy on there. *shrug*)

Also-- why Austin?

And thank you for the good luck! *hugs*

I just can't get over his glare. It's so...scowly!

Really, he's only been in one thing I care about either! I can never decide which one I like him best in - angsty Duchess and the Devil Archie; playful loser Even Chance/Duel Archie, or shouty assertive later-Archie? Ooh, I've answered my own question. Definitely the later one, even though they have the stupid hats.
Do you know this site? It's good for a giggle! http://archieology101.tripod.com/

The later Archie is fun because you get to see him play against Bush, too! Although it's almost painful to watch him be so self-sacrificing. ._. I don't know that I have a faaaaaavourite Archie, but I've discovered I like writing Duchess Archie best--and modern!domestic!au Archie, of course, where he and Bush sit around bickering and eating toast and things. :D
I've become horrifyingly familiar with that site in the last half-year or so, lawl--I introduced the roommate to Horatio Hornblower in the fall, and then ficwriting had to happen, and the rest was history. XD It's quite a good site, really helpful when you need to recall something and don't want to put on the actual movies.

My favourite Archie moment is when he shouts at Randall in Mutiny. "SIR, RANDALL! YOU CALL HIM SIR!" I get all a-flutter when he gets assertive like that!
Tee hee, I like the sound of toast-eating bickering!

Yes, that part is fantastic, augh. I'm very fond of his teasing Horatio about heights in Retribution, myself.
That is mostly the roommate's doing, I have to own; he's much better at writing them than I am. XD

Ah, the height-teasing - and Bush's contribution, "When I was young I had to eat turnips!" What a loser, I love him to bits!
(I call it the coefficent of expansion.
I call it bloody dangerous!)
I could quote HH all day...

I have been entirely sold on Bush lately, since the roommate likes him so well (and since we've managed to make Paul McGann into a gigantic woobie, and also his face is weirdly adorable even as it's bulldog-ish), augh. Love him to bits indeed.
And I am tempted to quote HH all night ("Death." "What?" "I was thinking on death." oh, Horatio), but as its 3am, I should probably resist and hie me off to bed, sigh.

"Put the chicken BACK, Styles"

"Monkey--mince, chopping motion."

I never got to watch much of Law and Order: UK, was it any good?

I really, really enjoyed the first half-dozen episodes or so. I really like the characters and how they interact with each other, and I quite liked how they did we-won-but-at-what-cost endings. But they did a couple of things that really aggravated me, one to do with Freema Agyeman's character and one with LGBT issues, and I haven't kept up with it since.
I reiterate the first few being super awesome, though. I've watched them so many times!

I do the icon-for-each character thing, too. I tried to make myself ease up, but, yeah, that didn't work. :)

I am so shockingly bad at casting my OCs, it's awful. It would be such a useful tool to be able to build up a glossary of faces to call on for inspiration.
Good luck at the interview! I hope it goes well.

I think my favourite thing to do with L&O:UK is solely Jamie Bamber's popped collars. Man. When I was watching it regularly I had an episode-by-episode tally of his popped collars!
A few years ago I had this idea that I wanted to have an IMDB in my own head. I'm nowhere near that good but I'm still really obsessive in keeping track of who's in what, which helps with casting.
